The amazing spiderman 2

The amazing spiderman 2 is a 140 minute superhero movie directed by Marc Webb , it stars Andrew Garfield. This instalment sees spiderman trying to maintain his relationship with his girlfriend all the while dealing with the Rhino, green goblin and Electro gunning for him.

This was a huge step up not only from the previous film but also the entire original trilogy. Here the Green Goblin, Spiderman, even Aunt May get their share of fantastic character moments, the personal angst/drama is handled very well, Garfield is now not just channeling spiderman but Parker also, we also get more backstory. Gwen is umpteenth more interesting/useful than Mary Jane and throughout the film for the observant they teased the vulture, black cat and Smythe as potential future characters. All the wit of the character is still there and its great fun to see him swinging/snarking around , good cast chemistry leads to strong interaction. There are flaws however, the pacing is terrible , electro is underwhelming , it’s too long and the Rhino is completely tacked on , leading to a rather crapshoot of conclusion, there is very little action and while the characterization really does alleviate this and help, for a summer movie, not enough fighting going on is inexcusable , add that the action is shaky cam, epilepsy inducing and overall too little too late territory, the plot also feels a bit loose.
It’s a big mixed bag of a film  but despite this goes on, for the character work as number three on my favourite Marvel movies of alltime after Avengers, the first class and far better than expected and moreso than the awful recent Captain America movie.

Verdict: ****
